About the Job
Directs and coordinates activities concerned with manufacturing of company products by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.
This position is part of Northwest Pipe Company’s training and development process and will receive hands on training in a variety of departments. Promotion opportunities may not be located at the facility in which this position is initially located and may require relocation.
Essential Functions & Major Responsibilities
- Confers with management personnel to establish production and quality control standards
- Ensures department operation processes are maintained and running effectively while supervising work activities to meet production requirements, eliminate operating problems and improve product quality.
- Problem-solve (analyze data, determine root causes, develop implementation plans) and resolve issues which are affecting operations quality or throughput.
- Ensures that products are produced to specification, in accordance with delivery requirements and cost estimates.
- Interface with production, maintenance, plant management, and others outside the plant as needed to resolve issues, implement improvements, communicate status, etc. on projects.
- Coordinates input from internal/external customers to better understand customer needs and/or perceptions.
- Keeps abreast of current product developments and trends.
- Ability to optimize personnel performance and results
- Primary driver of safety for employees. Ensures that all JSA’s and SDS’s are kept current.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Plant Manager.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential functions satisfactorily. - Familiar with basic skills in the use of software: MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook), SAP preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, percent and mass.
- Aptitude to calculate and use the following: tape measures, micrometers, calipers, protractors and gauges to determine needs for production and quality of pipe products in a variety of applications.
- Ability to define problems collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Education/Experience
- Two-year college or technical school; or three to five years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Previous supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment required.
- Experience in a heavy-industrial manufacturing environment preferred.
