The South Valley Sewer District (SVSD) is expanding the capacity of a sanitary sewer line along 14400 South as part of a comprehensive capital improvement project in Bluffdale City, Utah. The district’s System Evaluation and Capacity Assurance Plan (SECAP) identified that the existing sewer line is nearing capacity. To meet the growing demands of current and future residents in the service region, SVSD, in collaboration with Bluffdale City, is upsizing 7,520 LF of sanitary sewer with 18-inch diameter HDPE pipeline. The project utilizes 28 Perfect Lined Manhole Systems manufactured by Geneva Pipe and Precast, which will provide corrosion-free longevity for the upgraded infrastructure.
Each lined manhole system includes a pre-channeled base with an integrated plastic liner, lined precast riser and cone, and internal coupler joints that provide a leak-free connection with no field-welding required. The majority (26) of the lined manholes are 60-inch diameter with 18-inch pipe connections; one is 72-inch diameter with 24-inch pipe connection; and one is a 72-inch diversion structure designed to help control flow through the sewer system. The lined manholes vary in depth up to 25 feet.
Geneva Pipe previously supplied lined manholes for SVSD’s 9400 South Sewer Replacement Project in nearby South Jordan. Both projects partnered with J-U-B Engineers for project design and Newman Construction for installation.
In addition to expanding sewer capacity, the multi-phased 14400 South project includes the replacement of a drinking water line, the installation of new pressurized irrigation lines and a storm drain system, and upgrades to aging roadways. Pipeline construction is anticipated to be complete in early 2025, with the full project scope complete in the summer.
