DFW Airport Installs Texas’ First Perfect Lined Manhole
Precast Concrete Manhole with Integrally Cast Liner Provides Permanent Corrosion Resistance for the Airport’s Wastewater Infrastructure
Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) is enhancing its wastewater infrastructure as part of the Airfield Safety and Efficiency Improvements – Package 3 Project. The project includes rehabilitation of the airport’s Triturator C facility, located on the east side of the airport between Terminals C and E. The triturator grinds and processes waste from aircraft lavatories before discharging it into the sanitary sewer system—a process that generates corrosive gases such as methane and hydrogen sulfide, which can deteriorate concrete structures over time.
To ensure long-term performance in this highly caustic environment, DFW selected the Perfect Lined Manhole from NWPX Geneva. This installation marks the first NWPX lined concrete manhole in the State of Texas—setting a new precedent for corrosion protection in regional wastewater infrastructure. The Perfect Lined Manhole was specified as a cost-effective alternative to polymer concrete that delivers permanent corrosion resistance while meeting ASTM C478 standards.
The installed lined manhole measures 48 inches in diameter and 5.9 feet in depth and features a three-way configuration with 6”x8”x8” invert channels. The monolithic base and flat lid are lined with FRP, and the riser section is lined with HDPE. Joints between the base, riser, and top utilize SDV-Seal manhole gaskets, providing a weld-free, gas- and watertight connection between components. Corrosion-resistant grade rings are used between the lined concrete lid and cast iron cover, and the base is anchored to an extended slab for enhanced flotation resistance. The manhole was installed efficiently by J.L. Parker Plumbing, Inc., with no specialized tools required.

Along with the new lined manhole, this improvement project incorporates a GreaseTrooper® Gravity Grease Interceptor and three PumpTrooper® Lift Stations manufactured by NWPX Park. The NWPX engineering team collaborated closely with DFW’s project managers, designers, and engineers to specify, design, and manufacture the optimal solutions for each phase of the wastewater system—from pretreatment to conveyance.
The NWPX Perfect Lined Manhole System offers a reliably leak-proof, low-maintenance solution with a 100+ year design life and a 50-year corrosion warranty. Providing a durable and cost-effective alternative to polymer concrete, it ensures that wastewater infrastructure downstream from DFW’s upgraded triturator facility remains protected against corrosion for decades to come.
