We’re immediately seeking a Mill Operator to join our Northwest Pipe team in Saginaw, TX.  This position will train on days for 6 months then move to night shift.

About the Job

Operates spiral mill, counts and marks lengths of pipe, splices coil and completes proper documentation under ongoing supervision. Trains other mill operators on special mill techniques and/or procedures.

Essential Functions & Major Responsibilities
  • Performs some preventive maintenance.
  • Operates mill.
  • Grinds welds and end finish.
  • Sets up equipment.
  • Marks pipe.
  • Performs cleaning and grinding as required
  • Moves pipe with overhead crane.
  • Ensures general housekeeping and safety.
  • Performs ISO procedures.
  • Regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the lead or supervisor.
  • Follow all safety and company policies / procedures and promotes a safe culture.
  • Complies with all OSHA safety requirements, work rules and regulations.
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment.
  • Weld and splice pipe.
  • Break down coils.
  • Maintain housekeeping within all production, storage and waste areas.
  • Follow all work instructions, procedures, and job safety (JSA’s)
  • Properly identify (mark) pipe with the use of spray paint
  • Effectively communicates issues to management
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Welding machines (wire & stick)
  • Grinders
  • Arc gouging equipment
  • Torches
  • Overhead crane
  • Lock-out Tag-out
  • Small forklift
  • Shear
  • hand tools
  • Ability to use precision measuring equipment including but not limited to measuring tape and 100th diameter tape
Education/Experience
  • High School diploma, GED; or one-year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • On-the job training by other mill operators who have experience, knowledge and insight into the job.
  • FCAW weld qualified
