About the Job

The Industrial Maintenance Electrician II services and performs preventive/predictive maintenance on plant electrical systems and equipment.

Essential Functions & Major Responsibilities
  • Follows all safety and company policies / procedures and promotes a safe culture
  • Complies with all OSHA safety requirements, work rules and regulations
  • 480 V 3 Phase power
  • Communicates with operators and observes, test, and evaluates operation of machinery and equipment to diagnose cause of malfunction, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Connect power cables to equipment, such as motors and welders.
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
  • Install conduit (pipes or tubing) inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas, and pull insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete conduit (pipes or tubing) inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas, and pull insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits between boxes.
  • Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.
  • Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
  • Test-runs repaired machinery and equipment to verify proper and safe operation.
  • Examines parts for defects, such as breakage or excessive wear.
  • Records repairs and maintenance performed.
  • Calibrate welding machines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Must be competent with the use of PC, email, text messaging, internet research, and software based maintenance.
  • Evaluate work environment for safe working conditions prior to any work being performed.
  • Responsible for Lock-Out and Arc Flash procedures.
  • Communicate with the maintenance supervisor, affected employees, plant leadership and maintenance mechanics on downtime, equipment issues, repairs ETA’s, and parts and supply needs.
  • Responsible for maintaining and improving department lean manufacturing and 5S initiatives. Fabricates replacement parts for equipment or safety items.
  • Must be able to perform Root Cause Analysis exercise on equipment failures, using tools such as 5-whys and cause effect systems.
  • Installs power and lighting circuits and repairs distribution circuits.
  • Regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Test-runs repaired machinery and equipment to verify adequacy of repairs.
  • Cleans and lubricates parts, equipment, and machinery.
  • Examines parts for defects, such as breakage or excessive wear.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concreate variables in standardized situations.
  • Computer skills needed. Microsoft Word as needed to generate documents as needed.
  • Reads and interprets schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints and repair manuals to provide required technical support.
  • Assists in the company’s Preventative Maintenance Program and follows all safety rules and regulations.
  • Troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers and coordinate findings and recommendations with Maintenance, Production and Controls Department.
  • Read precision measuring instruments such as micrometer, caliper, bore gauges, and dial indicators.
  • Reading gauges and watching guides.
  • Ability to problem solve, troubleshoot, multitask and work independently with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work against and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient PC skills including Microsoft Office applications.
Education/Experience
  • Associates degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two year College or technical school; 6-8 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent of education and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Electrical License, Plant Journeyman or higher strongly desired
  • Valid State Driver’s License
  • Fork Truck and material handling equipment
  • Aerial Man lifts
  • Crane Operator

 

ELECTRICIAN II – an Electrician II is responsible for items described for an Electrician I but require stronger work experience within each function.  Limited supervision required.  May help to direct Level I Electricians in the performance of their duties and provide them on the job training (OJT) as necessary. Performance expected to be at an intermediate to advanced level capacity. Promotion from Electrician I based on criteria determined by management.
