About the Job:

The Health and Safety Coordinator leads and manages the safety operations of the Portland facility to ensure compliance with all federal, state and local safety laws and regulations.  Monitors the overall operations of production, ensuring the safety and security of everyone, enforcing strict regulations and company safety protocols.  This position reports directly to the Operations Manager of the facility and collaborates with all employees, customers, external business partners, non-profits and any government entity.

 

Essential Functions & Major Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical safety and health support and information to production and corporate personnel.
  • Develop annual company safety and health goals.
  • Develop facility safety health programs and objectives and coordinate safety-training programs.
  • Monitor safety and health regulations and provide technical support to plant and corporate personnel to ensure compliance with EPA, Federal and State safety and health regulations.
  • Investigate and report on any accidents or unsafe events and suggest/implement safety corrective measures and ensure that the corrective measures are completed in a timely manner to address the hazard.
  • Understand Federal and State occupational safety and health regulations and monitor regulatory changes (through the Federal Register, etc.) as they occur.
  • Review process operating procedures/batch records and provide input for EPA and safety and health considerations.
  • Periodically audit practices and records of manufacturing plants to ensure compliance with company programs, EPA and Federal/State occupational safety and health regulations.
  • Maintain a safety library (e.g. videos, regulations, reference manuals).
  • Identify company safety training needs and coordinate health and safety training programs.
  • Participate in new product/process reviews including Job Safety Assessments and Operator Training.
  • Support corporate/plant engineering to implement engineering controls to minimize safety and occupational health hazards.
  • Promote safety and health awareness through internal company memoranda, newsletters, and specific training programs.
  • ACT Safety audit liaison in overseeing the facility’s safety programs.
  • Advice plant and corporate staff of regulatory changes with which the facility must comply and provide advance notice so that compliance on the effective date of new regulations is assured.
  • Monitor lost-time injuries/illnesses and Worker’s Compensation Claims.
  • Comply with quality (ISO) policies and procedures.
  • Identify and purchase Safety materials needed for plant operations.
  • Supply plant personnel appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Provide advice on facility matters to counsel and Operations Manager
  • Perform other duties as needed by the Operations Manager.
  • Position requires regular, reliable and predicable attendance.

 

Education/Experience:

  • BS in Occupational Health and Safety or related field (preferred)
  • 2 – 5 years’ experience in manufacturing environment with responsibility for Health and Safety
  • Knowledge of current Oregon OSHA regulations and requirements
  • Current OSHA 501 Certification (preferred)

  • Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/ or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

 

Visual Acuity:

The worker is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
