About the Job

Under limited supervision, the Plant Maintenance Supervisor supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in setting up, installing, repairing and maintaining equipment, machinery, and the physical facilities.

Essential Functions & Major Responsibilities
  • Directs workers in electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment.
  • Assists workers in diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and equipment
  • Directs workers engaged in dismantling, assembling and installing industrial machinery
  • Requisitions parts as needed
  • Maintains departmental budget and capital work orders as needed to comply with Northwest Pipe company financial recordkeeping requirements.
  • Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment
  • Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations including Safety Programs, NPCA Quality systems, 5S
  • Interprets specifications, blueprints and job orders to workers and assigns duties
  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules
  • Enters and approves time in Kronos timekeeping system
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and quality of product.
  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase the efficiency of Houston Plant operations
  • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals
  • Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments
  • Coordinates and schedules outside vendors to complete repairs and maintenance needs outside the knowledge base and/or skillset of current employees
  • Negotiates rates with third party/outside vendors for plant maintenance activities

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents.

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
