Northeast Tacoma/Federal Way Transmission Main

In Fall 1999, Northwest Pipe Company, the RCI Construction Group, and the City of Tacoma, Washington broke ground on the Northeast Tacoma/Federal Way Transmission Main project that was first proposed more than 25 years ago. Tacoma Water worked for the past 10 years to conduct environmental impact studies, secure right-of-way permits, and negotiate with the Puyallup Indian Tribe for permission to cross its reservation. The 8.7 mile pipeline will Supply the Lakehaven Utility District, serving Federal Way, Washington, with additional water from Tacoma's surplus supply. The pipeline design uses the newest technology in seismic stability, corrosion control, and construction efficiency.

Mark Robison, CEO of RCI, commented, "We have followed the design, permitting, and funding of Pipeline Five for 15 years. Our partnership with Northwest Pipe makes our job more efficient and cost effective. Northwest Pipe's experience, personnel, and diligence are major reasons for this project's success." Tim Larson, lead engineer with Tacoma Water adds, "We feel fortunate to have Northwest Pipe as the pipe manufacturer and RCI as our installation contractor on this project. This will ensure that Tacoma Water gets a quality project in every respect."
